The Gartell Light Railway is owned and operated by three generations of the Gartell family. The railway runs on two-foot-gauge track and was first opened to the public in 1990. The line's principal station is at Common Lane, where there is a large car park, the NEW track-side refreshment room, ticket office and shop. The Visitor centre is located on platform 2 with various railway memorabilia. At present, the GLR is about three quarters of a mile in length, and half a mile runs along the track bed of the old Somerset & Dorset Joint Railway.

The Terracotta Army of China is a spectacular NEW exhibition which brings together all the wonder of the discovery of the many treasures of Chin She Huang Di, the first Emperor of China. He conquered and united China to become its First Emperor. He built the Great Wall and amassed great works of art. A megalomaniac, he sought the secret of immortality. 70,000 workers built his tomb filled with legendary treasures. His 3000 wives and concubines followed him to the grave. Over 6000 fantastic life-size clay warriors protected his tomb. The Famous Terracotta Army - one of the wonders of the ancient world. The Exhibition features a spectacular group of these warriors which have been special created in China by the conservation technicians who preserve and restore the warriors after excavation. Also featured are fabulous recreations of Ching She Huang Di, his uniformed officers, and the life-size clay warriors.The dramatic audio presentations and lighting bring the whole experience stunningly to life. The exhibition has been exhibited in Jersey and at various centres in Britain. It is at present at The Terracotta Warriors Museum, Dorchester, UK.

The Tolpuddle Martyrs Museum tells the harrowing tale of the Martyrs arrest, trial and punishment, leading to the foundation of modern day trade unionism. The museum has been re-designed into a modern, informative, and educational exhibition, using interactive touch screen displays new graphic panels telling the story in text and images. The museum sets out the Martyrs' story in four sections: Before the arrest, The Oath and Betrayal, Transportation, and the Homecoming. A new Book and CD-ROM have also been produced, all sponsored by trades unions and organisations. The museum evolved out of the library which formed part of the Tolpuddle Martyrs Memorial Cottages, built in 1934 to mark the Centenary of the Martyrs' conviction. The library, meant for use by the workers living in the cottages, soon became a depository for various artefacts, documents and memorabilia relating to the history of the Tolpuddle Martyrs. Over the years, a rather ad hoc display telling the story of the Martyrs had evolved into the Tolpuddle Martyrs Museum. The new Museum opened Saturday 1st April 2000, it has finally become an appropriate place of pilgrimage for visitors from the UK and around the world, for young and old alike. Visitors can now discover for themselves how the Tolpuddle Martyrs changed the face of social history and, through their beliefs and actions, made such an impact on trade unionism today. East Dorset The heritage centre was opened in February 2003 and is the first stage in a plan to establish a museum, exhibition and cultural centre to promote the proud history of the heathland industries which sustained the people of Verwood and surrounding district for 200 years. So far there is a cob built drying shed of the Crossroads Pottery and a new extension which is a reception area, gift and coffee shop. On permanent display are Verwood pots, maps, photographs and tableaux of interest. Some Saturdays there is pottery lessons for the family. Open Mon-Sat 10.00 - 12.00 plus Thurs 14.00 - 16.00.
